Welcome to 5th Grade LLD!

In my classroom, we work on individual goals and work on a modified grade level curriculum to meet the needs of all learners and learning styles. Here is an overview of our program:

Reader’s Workshop Format:

• Mini-Lessons to introduce & target new reading skills

• Independent Reading time to practice and apply new skills

• Conferencing to allow the teacher to meet with each student & target their individual reading skills and goals

• Guided Reading or Reading Groups to focus on small, leveled groups to target all students’ instructional reading levels

Our Reading Units of Study focus on different kinds of Fiction and Nonfiction Texts and skills to target each genre.

Writer’s Workshop Format:
 

• Mini-Lessons to introduce & target new writing skills

• Independent Writing time to practice writing and applying new skills

• Writer’s Checklists to allow students to review, revise, and edit their work

• Conferencing to allow the teacher to meet with each student to target their individual reading skills and goals

• Publishing and sharing writing to our classroom audience

Our Writing Units of Study focus on Narrative, Informational, & Opinion/Persuasive Writing and skills to better our writing of each kind of text.

Math:

Math instruction in my class relies on a centers-approach. Students meet with the teacher daily to learn new skills and practice learned skills more independently with paraprofessional support at centers. This allows all students to continue to progress along the learning standards, while maintaining previously learned math skills. We also practice our math facts daily either using Reflex Math or flashcard practice.

5th Grade Math Skill/ Focus:

Unit 1: Fluency with Whole Numbers and Decimals (Chapters 1-5)

Unit 2: Operations with Fractions (Chapters 6-8)

Unit 3: Geometry and Measurement (Chapters 9-11)
